SBG Aberdeen is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) team based in Aberdeen, Scotland.

BJJ classes are held in our purpose-built room at Quay Fitness, Clarence Street, Aberdeen, AB11 5BH.

The club is affiliated to Straight Blast Gym (SBG) under the guidance of SBG UK director Karl Tanswell. Classes are run by coaches who are brown belts under Karl.

SBG Aberdeen is part of the United Kingdom Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association (UKBJJA).

WHEN WE TRAIN

Tuesday: 18.00 - 19.00 - Gi BJJ rolling/sparring rounds

19.00 - 20.00 - Gi BJJ technique

20.00 - 21.00 - BJJ fundamentals (participants can wear no gi to this session)

Thursday: 18.00 - 19.00 - No gi BJJ rolling/sparring rounds

19.00 - 20.00 - No gi BJJ technique

20.00 - 21.00 - BJJ fundamentals (participants can wear no gi to this session)

Friday: 17.30 - 19.00 - Gi BJJ rolling/sparring rounds

19.00 - 19.30 - BJJ Q+A

Sunday: - 10.00 - 11.30 - Positional rounds of gi/no gi on alternating weeks

11.30 - 12.30 - BJJ fundamentals

WHAT IT COSTS

Members can pay £45 per month to attend all classes. This must be paid by standing order. The club's bank details are available upon request.

Daily drop-in rates are: 1 class - £5, 2 classes - £7, 3 classes - £10

BEGINNERS

We recommend beginners start on a Thursday night. All that is required to train no gi is a t-shirt and shorts.

SBG ABERDEEN IN BJJ COMPETITION

SBG Aberdeen has an active BJJ competition team that competes under the banner of SBG UK.

The club previously competed in amateur mixed martial arts (MMA), with six athletes putting together a combined record of 15 wins, 3 defeats, 1 draw and 1 no contest.

BJJ COACHING CREDENTIALS

SBG Aberdeen BJJ coach Ross McTavish has achieved the following:

- BJJ brown belt under SBG UK director Karl Tanswell.

- Officiated at numerous BJJ competitions, having qualified as a Level 3 UKBJJA referee in the IBJJF ruleset.

- Completed two coaching workshops with SBG President and black belt Matt Thornton.

- Attended an Injury Prevention In MMA Seminar organised by elite MMA coach John Kavanagh and the Irish MMA Federation.

- Hosted a two-day course focused on strength and condition, rest and recovery in BJJ with personal trainer Simon Mcevoy, who runs his own business (King of Kings) at SBG Ireland in Dublin.
